Deep in the catacombs beneath the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and his
companions, Willie and Short Round, have been captured by Mola Ram, high priest
of Kali and leader of the Thuggee death cult. He explains to Dr. Jones that once
he obtains the final two of five mystical Sankara Stones he will have the power
to destroy the British Imperialists who have invaded their land and allow Kali,
Hindu Goddess of Death, to rule over the world.
When Indy scoffs at this, Ram motions to his huge henchman who forces Indy's
mouth open while another priest brings forward Ram's gruesome ceremonial
chalice: a golden goblet fitted with a mummified human skull at its top. As
Willie and Short Round watch in horror, Ram pours the blood-like potion down
Indy's throat, bewitching Indy to become a thrall to the evil high priest.
