Genetically engineered on the storm drenched world of Kamino, the first
generations of clone trooper were grown from genetic material taken from the
skilled bounty hunter, Jango Fett. Identical in form, physical prowess, stamina
and mental capacity, each clone trooper was fully encased in hard white armor,
their identical faces concealed behind a t-shaped visor.
The discovery of their secret existence came as the Confederacy of Independent
Systems was gearing for war, and as such the clone army was desperately needed
to protect the sanctity and stability of the Republic. The Supreme Chancellor
was granted emergency powers, and as his first act, he activated the clone
troopers as the grand army of the Republic.
Far superior to the battle droid armies of the era, clone troopers formed the
backbone of the Republic's military initiative against the Separatist forces, so
much so that the wars they fought in came to be named after them.

supplied by the Lucasfilm archives and features:
